Forest Service works hard to reduce hazardous fuels, wildfire threats to communities

Instead, many have chosen to live as close to nature as possible, on the edge of forests. One in three homes in the U.S. is now located in a wildland community, areas often referred to as the wildland-urban interface, where developed and undeveloped land meet.
