When Teddy Roosevelt became President of the United States in 1901, a new era of wildlife conservation began. Roosevelt was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, with a good sense of history. He opposed market hunting and was concerned that America would lose some of its major games species as well as our unique scenic areas.
